Newly homeported in Brooklyn, New York, the MSC Meraviglia is a popular option for guests looking to leave from the New York City area, for a reasonable price.

In July 2023, I sailed aboard the MSC Meraviglia with my family, which was a group of close to 20 people. While we had a great time together, I wouldn’t count the MSC Meraviglia as my favorite ship I’ve ever sailed on.

But, there’s a few things I wish I knew prior to sailing that might have been able to manage some of my expectations. I hope these things will give a little insight on what to expect if the MSC Meraviglia is on your travel agenda.

If you’d like to see a full review of the MSC Meraviglia, click here. I also provided a full breakdown of the Dining Menus and Food onboard that you can find on my blog.

1. The Rooms are Small

During my cruise, I sailed with two other adults in my cabin, making a total of 3 adults in one cabin. We’ve done this before and we’ve never really had an issue with space or sizing of the cabin. That wasn’t the case onboard the MSC Meraviglia. Aside from the room feeling small, there was definitely a lack of storage space available in the room that you should take note of.

I think that because of the lack of storage, it made the room feel small in itself. For example, the suitcase usually fits underneath the bed. I know I’ve mentioned this before and people have said well I fit mine under the bed on the MSC Meraviglia. We tried putting a 29” suitcase that wasn’t even stuffed under the bed and it would not fit. It was also a tight squeeze to get anything into the closet since it was right on top of the sofa. We ended up putting one suitcase on our dresser, one under the dresser (which took up walking space) and one in the closet.

Aside from the few drawers inside of the closet, there weren’t really any drawers in the room or places to store things if you wanted to. I understand I am on a cruise and the rooms aren’t huge, but I think that the layout of the rooms really contributed to the room feeling smaller than it should have.

2. There’s Lots of Disorganization

If I had to pick one word that described the MSC Meraviglia, I would have said unorganized. From the minute you enter the port of Brooklyn to boarding and other experiences, it was all just very unorganized. Let’s break down a few examples.

Port of Brooklyn

I get it- there are approximately 5700 guests getting on and getting off of a cruise ship and there’s just one port to accommodate it all. I’ve been on 20 cruises so I know the drill and how it works. But, the port of Brooklyn was one of the most chaotic situations I’ve seen and I didn’t even run into the most chaos.

First, there is only one way to enter the port- meaning you are sitting in a long line across the back of the port to even get to the main area to drop off your luggage. I actually saw people who got out of their cars and started walking a ridiculous distance because the line was so long. From the time that we entered the port to the time that I actually was in front of the ship was around 30 minutes. I’ve left from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal many times and we usually just pull up and we’re on our way. I think they need to find a more efficient way to get you over to the port quicker.

Once inside the port, security and check-in were fine, it was the waiting to get on the ship. The room was mobbed and everytime they called a number for boarding, people pushed through to the employee to give their number and run through. I think they needed a better system. I was at the port at 10:00 am and I was given boarding group 23. The time from check-in to boarding was around 45 minutes.

Now, my experience was unorganized, but happened relatively quickly. I had some family members who arrived at 11:00 am and they weren’t onboard until close to 1:30 pm. They said it was extremely unorganized and inefficient. You should have some contingencies in place no matter what time people arrive at the port.

Ocean Cay

Now, I get it- the cruise line can’t control the weather and I place absolutely no blame on them. But, if you see that there is weather coming through like a tropical storm, prepare.

We visited their private island, Ocean Cay and had a great day. It was cloudy but nothing terrible and the sun popped through a few times. At around 2:30 pm it got really dark and a bad storm came through. Like us, everyone decided to head back to the ship.

Imagine 5000 people trying to get back onto the ship with 1 gangway. Initially, that’s what was happening. You had most of the ship there waiting to get back  on with only 1 gangway open and checking for seashells as they had told us. People were pushing and shoving, with the elderly and babies stuck in this mess. When I tell you we waited almost an hour in the pouring rain to get back on the ship I am not kidding. After an hour, they decided to only open 1 more gangway. When we finally made it to the gangway, they only had 1 security guard checking cards.

That’s being extremely unorganized and unprepared for a situation. You can’t say we were the first cruise to experience something like this so contingencies need to be in place.

3. Be Cautious of the Photo Package

I am a big photo person. I love documenting my trips and taking pictures to remember all of these amazing memories with my family. I decided to purchase the photo package, called the All-Inclusive Digital Photo Package for $140 prior to my cruise.

First, don’t let the name deceive you. It’s not all-inclusive. To me, that sounds like any photo I take will be included in the cost… Well that’s not the case.

As I’ve mentioned previously, I traveled with a large group and there were 3 of us in our cabin. Once onboard, I was told that I could only get the photos of the 3 guests in the cabin and that’s it. I’ve purchased photo packages on many cruises and I’ve never heard of them before. I was told this very rudely by a photo shop employee.

But, something else important to note is that these photo packages do not include group photos. Every cruise we go on, we like to take a group photo all together. We waited in line at the Swarovski Crystal staircase for 15 minutes and were then told that he couldn’t take our picture. He told us to go to the gallery and that they would explain. When we did they said they would charge us $12 for every adult in the photo, which would cost around $156 for that picture, whether we liked the picture or not. We obviously didn’t take the professional photo and had someone else take it for us on another staircase with my phone.

The reason I say to be cautious is, if you’ve been on other cruise lines, you will most likely expect those types of photos to be included in the package and they are not.

4. Lack of Food Quantity/Quality/Variety

Cruises are known for an abundance of food… usually. The MSC Meraviglia did not follow suit on this. Whether it was the main dining room or the buffet, I didn’t find either impressive in quantity, quality or variety.

The buffet for breakfast and lunch lacked variety and was always lower quality than what was expected. I was very disappointed in this and actually didn’t eat lunch at the buffet most days because of that. Snacks and desserts were lacking at off times as well. The only thing that was really available late was pizza.

Dinner was another mess to be quite frank. Our food was always a small portion, cold and not the most tasty. I felt that the dining experience was lacking very much compared to meals I’ve had onboard Royal Caribbean and Norwegian.

If I can recommend anything, I’d say try Hola Taco and Cantina. The food was some of the better food I enjoyed on the ship.

5. Lack of Pool Space

If you are excited to head onboard the MSC Meraviglia to enjoy the pools, you’re not the only person. Given the immense size of the ships and number of guests it accommodates, there simply weren’t enough pools. There is the Bamboo Pool, which has a retractable awning, the Atmosphere Pool, which is the main pool and the Horizon Pool, which is the adults only.

The Bamboo Pool was always crowded and you ended up standing like a sardine in the pool- absolutely no swimming was happening. We were able to find seats, but they were always either tables or benches- no laying down chairs.

The Atmosphere Pool, which was outdoors, was always extremely mobbed. Don’t expect to find a seat by this pool unless you’re up super early. It’s also hard to even get into the pool because there is no room. The same is true of the adults only pool. It’s essentially a little box with no room to walk or move.

We definitely think this ship needs more pools or a better layout, but either way, we suggest you take advantage of the water and sun if you port in a warm climate.

Those are our 5 things you need to know about the MSC Meraviglia before you sail. Again, I don’t want to portray that I had a bad time, because I was with my family and I didn’t have a horrible time. But, I think the Meraviglia is lagging behind other ships. I think that Royal and Norwegian do a lot of things better and I’d be curious to see if this is something consistent across MSC or it’s just on the Meraviglia.

I was just on MSC Divinia for New Years, and I had these same problems. To get on the boat took 4 hours, to get off 2 hours and they made us go to the 7th floor only to walk our luggage down to the 5th floor. Food choices were limited, cheap, and cold! My husband and I had a balcony room and my mom and aunt had an interior room that was a lot bigger than ours and we paid more $1000 more than they did. This company is highly disorganized, unclean and just a damn mess! I agree with you most cruise ships I’ve been on are way better organized, clean, and well prepared for the amount of cruiser they expect. Also the Divinia only catered to Italians and European people. If you are of another race besides these two, this is not the cruise for you. Plus the staff members were rude at times to! Never again with MSC! Cruisers Beware!

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience! I had bigger hopes for MSC before sailing but I must agree- I am very wary of trying them again in the future. I always wonder if maybe it was just the ship I sailed on but to hear that someone on another ship had a similar experience, is interesting.

we were on the Meraviglia in Oct & after sailing on many cruises, many different lines this one was the worst. The bathroom shower always smelled like raw sewage, weird smell in the smaller theater, food not so good, took ages to get on & off, not enough tenders. The layout of the ship is horrible. They have events going on in main walkway & you have to push your way thru to get from dining room to theater. You actually had to pay for some of the shows at night. The ship holds too many people that can’t be accomatadated. Long lines for everything. Not enough seating to listen to piano bar singer in centet if ship who was quite good. If you did get one of the seats the furniture was too uncomfortable to sit on for too long, couches very deep unless you were 6 4 or taller. Whoever designed the layout should be terminated! Would never go on such a large ship again. Also tested covid positive in my cabin, called ship’s Dr & they did a quick covid test & said I was negative which wasn’t tru. I was sick as a dog last 2 days of the cruise. The ship ‘s Dr suggested I have a chair brought to the cabin to sit up. But I called reception a few times & they said they had no chairs. A ship rhis size & not one chair!! My husband went to dining room to get food for me & they said they don’t allow food to be taken out of dining room! I called from room to get the same food brought to me & they said they would but for a fee! My husband retrieved a few pieces of stale pizza from the buffet & cold tea by the by the time he got back to the cabin. They also wouldn’t help je with my luggage upon departure cause they said they don’t offer that for walk off even though I had 102 fever & very sick by then. Unbelievable! Worst ship ever!

We didn’t even get 2 of our stops due to bad weather which I know is no one’s fault.Everyone we met had most of the same concerns, the awful smells, no where to sit, overcrowded, poor layout.

we just sailed on the Meraviglia New Years week and fully agree that the boarding and disembarkation was a bit of a nightmare. And being a holiday week, the boat was full and the common areas were usually packed. However we found the food to be very good. And the smaller portions were just what we needed. We quickly learned that The Marketplace Buffet was a madhouse at the best of times and opted for breakfast and lunch at the Waves restaurant and our assigned restaurant for dinner. Reservations at the specialty restaurants were impossible to get by the time we decided to make them. The island for us was just perfect. We rented a cabana and had a great day.

Overall it was a great time and we’ve already booked another trip for next year on a different ship.

I’ve been on this ship twice 7 days and 9 days the only complaint I have is that wasn’t longer the Prascutto and all the cold cuts for lunch are all imported from Italy making them next level delicious the cheeses are also imported like the Reggiano parmesan Asiago cheese and brie cheese from France also served prime rib and lamb for lunch you just don’t see this quality for lunch on other line unless you pay for it. I also found the dinners to be some of the best I ever had surf and turf and steak and pastas are all made on board yes i have been on all the other cruise lines and i think The complimentary food is better then all the rest of the cruis lines yes you can get this on other lines but its extra we even canceled our specialty dining package on the first cruise we took with them because we were so happy with the complimentry food is there negatives just a few the coffee is not great didn’t wake me up even after 2 cups and the deserts are tasty but small but on the last day of both cruises they had a huge chocolate buffet that made up for that

the online booking procedures need some improvements mainly because of the large passenger loading, I’ve been on many cruises, but never a ship with the number of passengers on it as on the Meraviglia a huge Ship its System was over loaded by The sheer numbers of passengers boarding disembarkation. the state rooms were adequate

I totally agree! There was a lot of people for the size of the ship itself. I think their app and precruise services need upgrading.

Not being facetious, just really want to know… was there anything you liked about this cruise? Reading your blog makes me VERY nervous, as I have a cruise on this ship coming up. I only ever cruised Royal, so this is my first time trying any other cruise line. The deal I got was really good and I live here NYC. Wondering if I should I cancel???

Don’t cancell. I was on a cruise with them the beginning of February 2024 Getting on the boat was smooth no issues leaving from Brooklyn. As far as pic deals . I didn’t have one But bought 4 pics for $35 with my husband. There were alot of activities on board. The food was okay and I didn’t find it difficult to reserve in the specialty restaurants. At the time of booking we had a restaurant that my husband booked. it was Italian the food was fine. The room was adequate for Two people for 3rd person you need to be up and out. One of the ports was cancelled on Cay Island not sure I got the name right due to weather conditions. So Miami was added I with the Bahamas the only thing I would do differently with this trip is don’t book in the winter because theporys visted weren’t as hot as I would’ve liked. Miami was warmer then the Bahamas.

Every cruise line offers something different. I say, take the cruise and judge for yourself. One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure. I personally love MSC. Going on my 4th MSC Cruise in 1.5 years next month.

We just got off the ship 2 weeks ago. Embarking was easy as we wheeled our own luggage in through customs and then check in on our own line as we have Aurea. Disembark was easy since we started early and was off the ship by 725 since we wheeled our own luggage off again. We thought the food was very good at the complimentary restaurants with sit down service and a menu to choose from and wonderful waiters. Breakfast was just enough and yes sometimes you have to wait in line but many people do not know that the buffet in the back is not as crowded as the one in front with the same food. There’s plenty to do on the ship depending on who you are with. I have to two small boys and a husband so it’s pool, arcade, the climb or the tubing while I sit around with a drink. If you are Aurea you have an exclusive Aurea section to lounge. All depends on how you make your cruise. Book your shows day one especially the free ones or get on wait area for that show with no ticket. We paid for one meal with another group at the Brass Anchor for fish and chips and drinks for a change and honestly it’s the company that made the meal great.. and good prices too. The gym is not crowded.. the ship is so big just roam around or go shopping at the stores.. or just keep eating and snacking. We walked around rather than do excursions at ocean cay and nassau.. kids had a great time at the mini beaches. Getting a drink package relieved the stress of paying for each drink. I can say a lot more… but even on a packed ship on Winter Break week we had a really nice time.

Thanks for your comment. Everyone has different experiences. As you can see here from mine and from other peoples comments. People love to say that I’m being negative or that I’m being picky. Anyone who knows me knows if I am going on vacation, that’s not me. I’m the positive, optimist. With that said, I know people who have had a great time and people who have not. Again, everyone is different. I’ve been on over 20 different cruises so I have a lot to compare to.

my experience we just went Feb 23 out of Miami which was extremely organized and quick. But I did write this letter to MSC after our return

I wanted to share my experience it was my first time on your ships having used Carnival for all my others cruises and wanted to change I heard great things about MSC from my step sister so was super excited about going this was my experience

We took my cousins daughter (she has special needs she has down syndrome) on the cruise as a surprise for her 15 th birthday she had no idea we put a blindfold on u til we arrived. I had called customer service because I wanted to see if there were decorations we could prepay so the cabin could be decorated. She (Kathia) said they don’t do that but would document it so she would get a cake. I also told her we did not want the king bed that we needed 4 separate beds.

    Day 1

My niece and I went straight to the room to see if we could put up the decorations up and we were able to buy the rooms wasn’t finished so we left to go eat.    When we went back to the room after the announcement that the rooms were ready.    We get to the room and on the unit for the TV was a women’s feminine product (used) sitting under the TV.    The tables and all the  furniture was  all dusty and  dirty. The couch was really old a dirty looking

Plus the beds were together into a king bed even though it was suppose to be documented that we wanted them separate- our steward told us he did not have any notes.  He said he would separate them this evening

The size of the room was incredibly small and really a danger in case of an emergency because we had 4 people so with the beds and luggage there was no room to move around d without changing places with each other and then climbing over the beds to do that .  To be honest if there was a real emergency this  would have been extremely dangerous situation

That evening we went to dinner and I will say the waiter was fantastic but the food was sub par.  The prime rib was extremely rare even though we requested medium it was ice cold as was everything on the plate

The pasta was an extremely small portion and also cold.  We also ordered two my strips steaks.   I will say mine was hot and cooked well the other one came rare when medium well was called for and it was cold with no flavor, so most left the dining room still hungry

    Day 2

Disembarking to the keys was easy and the process is well organized except the first place we should our is and cards did not tell us the birthday girl needed to have her birthday certificate so at the last stop to get off my cousin had to run all the way back up to the room to get it, would have been great to learn that at the first stop.

Had a great time in the keys did the gold cart excursion. Upon return I g easy process to ge thank on the ship.

That evening we went to the dining room for dinner and this night changed our cruise experience.  We were seated and had to wait a bit for the waitress to come not a big deal it was busy.  But once she arrived from the minute she arrived her customer service was way below any that I have experienced on any ship ever.    When we started to order she went to my cousin first and she gave her order and then was asked about desert my cousin said can we order that after dinner so we could figure out what we wanted. The waitress (Her name was Rica) said ok no desert so we figured she was saying this meaning none for now but we would order later. Next she went to the birthday girl who I mentioned has Down syndrome so it sometimes take an extra minute to give her order she asked her what she wanted and she ordered the pasta.  Rica then asked her what desert and because she wasn’t prepared to give it she started looking at the menu and the waitress (Rica) was so nasty she turned from her and said ok no desert – she had no patience and was so rude the whole evening.  I even at one point asked her if she was having a bad day to which she replied no why, I said because you seem angry she no we are busy.   Ok so let’s be honest I know it was busy it normally is but I have never never never been treated like that.   My cousin ask for a sprite she walked away with out saying a word and never came back with the sprite when she finally came back my cousin asked her again if she could get a sprite and she grabbed the card from her hand walked away and said nothing.  She finally got her sprite.  Now the food the jerk chicken my niece got when it came to the table and she cut into it and it was raw bleeding raw, I ordered the short ribs and 90% fat ( not exaggerating). Horrible at this point with bad customer service and the food we just got up and left

Next stop was the store to get my niece a  feminine

Product.  We say the area and did. Or see what she normally uses there was a pack of pads and we went and asked the lady that works there if they had anything smaller she said no.   What she didn’t say nor did the package at least what we saw say that they were adult diapers.   My niece went to the rest room and when she opened them and realized what they were she panicked    The lady that was outside the bathroom told her to take them back and exchange them ( she worked for MSC). I went back in to the store with my niece and was told you cannot return them.  My niece at this point was really upset almost crying she asked the lady please I did. It even use these the lady said and I quote “ it is not my fault you picked them “ so we went and found a different kind and paid for them also.

    Day 3

Ocean cay was beautiful enjoyed the day and came back to the ship and enjoyed the pool. For dinner that night we did not go to the restaurant we did the buffet and to be honest it was the first time I felt full when I was done

I did go to customer service to share my experience and the Maître de came out to talk to me and I explained the who situation he apologized and said he wished I would have told him that night.  I said I was sorry I was so frustrated that I just wanted to get out of there

    Side notes-

We never got her birthday cake and were told at the customer service area that it was no on my notes ( mind you I had a whole conversation with Kathia on the phone and she said she put the notes on for the cake and that’s who also put notes about the single beds and not a king

I brought on the cruise a small brown box with a birthday sash and tiara for the birthday girl  and it disappeared I am assuming it was thrown out when the room was being cleaned very disappointing because we wanted her to feel special

Most staff were extremely nice and helpful.  Miquel one of the photographers was way above expectations.  He treated Lyndsey ( the birthday girl) so good joking with her always making sure he said high to her and took pictures she had so much fun with that and felt so special so we thank you for having an amazing person on staff

The game show The Quest was so much fun and we enjoyed it also the rock legend shows was amazing

I just wanted to share the good and the bad to try to make sure none of this happens to another person especially one with special needs.   Many made her feel special but Rica ruined it for all.

Went with my family last July. We loved it! it was our first cruise though so had zero expectations. The pros were the friendly directors, ports, and activities. Cons were too ooofff many people. Kids pounding in our walls at all hours… didn’t res. We called desk several nights and it just didn’t get better. No room in pools. We just laughed about the food… it tasted off. Since then, I went on a small royal cruise, and, agree ..I prefer the smaller ships with less small, screaming kids and ppeople. Royal had much better food as well. I don’t think I’d want to go in a huge ship ever again. ♡

Our first time cruising. We enjoyed the trip. Loved Ocean Cay. We were not prepared for the masses of locals at Nassau. The food was good at the Marketplace. The staff were very prompt and friendly. We personally didn’t care for the assigned restaurant. That’s just us. We loved the nightlife on the ship. The shows were good but after a couple we were good with that. Our favorite place and pool was the back of the ship. So for first cruise not many complaints. MSC Meraviglia

We sail all of MSC SHIPS about once a month. We find MSC Superior and elegant compared to american cruise lines. We just finished a cruise on Mardi Gras by carnival. We were mobbed by children and people at the limited 2 pools. And the pools were tiny and the food in the buffet. It’s terrible And very limited. There were way too many junk food places to eat at like tacos chicken pizza. They wanted to get away with cheap junk food. I was surprised that they didn’t have a Mc donald’s. Their shows in the showroom weren’t even worth sitting through. We walked out on most of them. Other than that, they had the comedy club which was vulgar most of the time.

We always take advantage of the specialty restaurant and enjoy them. We are cruising on the divina next month for another 11 day. Everyone I talk to says it is an older ship, but a fun one.rifgt now msc is the best value you can get. As a travel advisor I just booked 7 day cruise on mergavaiia in Oct with drink pkg, wifi, and on board credit for 650pp for balcony.unheard of. Looking forward to cruising next month.

I too when on a cruise on this same ship BU T out of Port Canaveral, FL

worst cruise I have ever taken AND would not sail again with them.

food buffet was the same every day, except adding one different item, coffee cups were always gone by 7 am, employees were nasty, room very small for Interior one, and their island sucked for not much to see, and TV shows mostly advertise their ship n maybe 4 other station/ shows

I Recommend paying a little bit more money and go on either royal caribbean or norwegian

we are diamond with MSC and have traveled on the Merivilga many times we have never really had a major issue that could not be handled by either the hotel or Cruise manager, I do agree a little bit about the food it could be a little bit more of a variety but the main dining room was always good and the specialty restaurants are excellent. This is our first trip out of the Brooklyn terminal we are a little weary of it but are hoping for the best we have cruised out of Miami many times on board this ship and it never had a major problem with the terminal. The room was adequate for us to adults the entertainment was so so the best part of the cruise ship was in young man by the name of Chris J Clarke who was an awesome entertainer. I guess it comes down to the time you cruise and basically who cruises with you hope it gets better for you.

I just traveled with MSC Seashore and had some of the same experiences. The cruiseship was hot. The rooms say 60 degrees but I feel it was controlled elsewhere. The food was small portions, compared to other cruises I’ve been you have to pay $5 up charge if you want an additional entrée. If your drinking and want something to eat after 2am your our of luck. Nothing is open, not even room service. The area they had the glow party at was like if they had the heat on. You have people drinking and dancing you should have the AC on not the heat. Aside from all this we made it work but will never cruise with MSC again there cheap for a reason. I also wouldn’t recommend them

OMG your review is spot on! That and several members of the cruise entertainment staff stole my e-cigarettes for their own personal use during a scavenger hunt show. Never going on MSC ever again. You could not pay me. Even if it was Yacht Club. I would never go!

I cruised on Divina last year and was very happy with everything except the entertainment. Our Oceanview Cabin was huge with so much storage space and the food was amazing with so many choices. The pizza in their buffet was as good as the pizza I enjoyed in Italy. Many of their entrées in the main dining room had a European flavor but there were also a number of choices for those who just liked their meat and potatoes every day. The entertainment was very disappointing. When I cruised MSC a few years ago I raved how wonderful the entertainment was as the best I had experienced on a cruise ship. But the opposite was true this time.

we sailed the MSC Meraviglia September 2023 out of Brooklyn NY and like most my complaints were the same; small cabins/bathrooms, horrible buffet, the quality of the alcohol beverages were hit or miss depending on bar or bartender , the boarding and disembarking was bad. The restaurants that are included in the specialty dining package were good with (we ate at the seafood restaurant, Japanese and the steakhouse) the Japanese restaurant was not good. They do a decent job at keeping you entertained. We are party people (55-70yrs old) every night we couldn’t wait to hit the adult club but the djs were not good. We could not get our groove on lol.

Our experience with the Meraviglia was superb! The balcony room was more than sufficient in size, nice varieties of food and great entertainment; Cirque de Solei, and more!
Now I must admit we sailed from a European port and through the Mediterranean, back to a European port. It was magical and the shops and specialty restaurants were more than worth it.
The troubles I’m reading about seem to be more evident here in the states. So sad because I was looking forward to sail again. But who knows…maybe we will. But not looking forward to the Brooklyn port based on some of the comments.
End of the day, we had a WONDERFUL time!!!

Don’t cancel your trip. I just came back last week from a cruise leaving Miami. MSC Divina was great! Food and All! Just make sure you get the internet package. Bahamas was great!

I went on a birthday cruise for my brother’s 70th birthday. There were 18 of us. The boarding was crazy we had two handicapp people whom they made wait for them to bring wheel chairs even though they had electric scooters. An once they arrived with wheel chairs. decided it was alright to ride scooters. The food was horrible at every dining area. It was so crowded everywhere especially with a scooter. An the bars at pool areas was a mess to at least 30 minutes to get a drink. An last but not least. I paid $40 dollars to get 2 phones set up for the cruise which the had crew member to do. To find out after the cruise I was charge $450 for roaming charges that couldn’t be removed. An even though we put an tagged luggage as request wasn’t removed until we went to service desk. An I had to spend 30 minutes to find once we left the ship. We’ve been on at least 7 cruises on royal Caribbean they where all amazing everything .

Agree. Beautiful ship, but everything else was below average. Good price, but poor experience.

We were on this ship as well to Bermuda . Everything above is accurate. The very worst cruise I ever experienced. Our cruise also had a very very large group from China that basically took over the entire ship. The promenade for dancing. The buffet area for mahjong eating cards ..taking all the mugs, all the tea bags, fresh fruit. Even throwing trays and food fights. Pushing, cutting in line, screaming during the show. Just plain rude. The staff had no control. Msc is known for this. Beware.

love MSC. We had no issues. Food was fine, service was great. Love the fold out chair for extra bed. Island was perfect and over night was great.

I have been on the Meriviglia twice though not in NY. The port in NY is your problem. All cruise lines going out of NY have issues. This is a lovely ship which I never had the problems this writer has. 52 cruises under my belt tells me this writer just wants to hear himself talk. The food was fabulous, the service was fabulous, the shows though different from other cruise lines were fabulous. This writer needs a refresh because he will never be happy. His job is to find ills about cruising

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I am happy you had a great experience on the Meraviglia twice, but it was just that, you’re experience. I’ve been on over 20 cruises so this wasn’t my first cruise and I’ve been on almost all of the major cruise lines. I have no animosity towards anyone or that cruise, it was just my experience. Furthermore, I’ve sailed out of numerous ports both nationally and internationally, NY many times and I never had that experience before. Again, the whole point behind this is to share my experience. I shared photos throughout showing my experience on the ship, including dirty napkins, dusty vents and exposed electrical sockets. I didn’t make any of this up. You don’t know me to say I will never be happy. I’ve enjoyed numerous cruises and been happy so your comment is unwarranted. Thanks!

I traveled on the MSC Merovingia out of Port Canerval also and I wouldn’t travel any of their ships a gain! And on top of it, it was my very first ever cruise at 69 yrs. old

food sucked with the same thing everyday for 7 days, for each meal time, room small and you will come home with your clothes, smell like mildew and I had no window to open so it shouldn’t of smelled like that, employees were OK the first two days but after that, I thought they were very rude, Plus, they will charge you for Wi-Fi when they tell you it’s free and also every event you want to go to! Also, you will not find a coffee cup around their coffee in the dining area between 6 and 7 AM. You’ll have to wait for the dishwasher to bring some out.
AND let me not forget the “TV stations in your room:”. You will get a total of maybe 11 channels and 6 of them are about the ship, 2 r in Spanish n rest English!

i’ve let all of my at least 50 friends know about this and told him not to choose this one …choose either carnival, Norwegian or celebrity, which my girlfriend that has been on 20 cruises told me they are the best ever!

AGAIN don’t waste your money on any of their cruises that’s why they offered them so cheap!
