Dining Review: The Wave of American Flavors

We’ve all had it happen to us. We’ve had a reservation for a while only to have something come up and there goes your plans. This happened during my recent trip to Disney. I had a reservation to ‘Ohana’s which I had to cancel and then I was reservation-less. The Disney Parks App saved the day; is so helpful. By checking on the app, I was able to see all restaurants with reservations for that night and make the new reservation right on the app.

That’s where the Wave of American Flavors comes in. A quick monorail ride away from the Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom, the Wave is a hidden gem located on the ground level of the Contemporary.

Neon Waiting Area at The Wave

You enter through a hallway that leads to the restaurant, which features a bar and a cool neon blue waiting room if you are early for your reservation.

To start your meal, your server brings over whole grain bread. The bread was delicious and definitely did not have that overly whole wheat taste. The menu at the Wave changes seasonally, according to what is in season and fresh. When I visited, it was the summer menu. There are a lot of different options for both meat lovers and vegetarians.

food

Beef Tenderloin & House Made Chips

Since I am pretty picky, I opted for the beef tenderloin with house made potato chips. The beef was extremely tender and melted in your mouth. Those chips….. They were so good! I could have eaten a whole bag’s worth of them before I left.

dessert

Chocolate Flight Dessert Option

Just like dinner, there are many options for dessert, including a deconstructed sundae, which is pretty cool. I opted for the chocolate flight. It consisted of three petite chocolate desserts, a chocolate mousse with hazelnut crust cake, a chocolate peanut butter cake and a black forest cake. All three were good but my favorite was the chocolate mousse cake with the hazelnut crust. Oh boy! I could have just kept eating that.

All in all, I would recommend making a stop at The Wave of American Flavors. The food tastes great and the atmosphere is very cool. Although you don’t always hear about this restaurant, it’s a hidden gem in the Contemporary that should definitely be visited.
